Torbay Lottery Celebrates its 4th Birthday

19 May 2021

This month the Torbay Lottery celebrates its fourth birthday and shines a light on the local community groups that have benefitted from its support.

Since its launch in 2017, the Torbay Lottery has raised over £146,500 for the local community and more than £36,100 has been given away in winnings.

So far 126 local groups have signed up to the Torbay Lottery as part of a fun and effective way to raise funds for their much-valued services in the community.

PATH Torbay is one of the most successful Good Causes who have raised £1,586 through the Torbay Lottery.

Councillor Christine Carter, Cabinet Member for Corporate and Community Services at Torbay Council said: “I would like to thank everyone who has supported our local groups and organisations over the past four years through the Torbay Lottery to help make a difference in our communities. We could not do this without the generous support of all the weekly players. Please continue to support us and encourage other local groups and organisations to sign up so they too can benefit.”

A spokesperson at PATH Torbay said: “We’re a local charity that run a food and support service for residents in Torbay. Over the last year of the pandemic, we have extended our offer and seen an increase in demand for our services whether that be providing and delivering food parcels to those in need or who have been shielding. We rely solely on volunteers and the generous donations from our communities, especially from schemes such as the Torbay Lottery. Without this support we wouldn’t have been able to do what we do and thank everyone who supports us through the Torbay Lottery.”

Between April 2020 and March 2021, £11,000 was raised through ticket sales from the Torbay Lottery and was match funded by Torbay Council, meaning £22,000 was available to help support more local causes who had been impacted by COVID-19.

Over the last year the Torbay Lottery has helped many local good causes raise vital funds after they were unable to carry out their usual fundraising activities owing to the pandemic.

Good causes that sign up to the Torbay Lottery not only benefit from receiving 50% of the profits from ticket sales from their page, but they also receive a host of marketing materials as well as their own Torbay Lottery web page. Good causes can sign up at any time via:  https://www.torbaylottery.co.uk/good-causes

Torbay Lottery draws take place every Saturday night. Tickets cost just £1, and each ticket has a 1 in 50 chance of winning a prize every week. This includes an incredible £25,000 jackpot prize if you match all six numbers. Players that sign up before 26 June will also be in with the chance of winning a year of fruit and veg home delivery as part of a national prize. To be in with a chance of winning go to https://www.torbaylottery.co.uk/

50% of the £1 ticket goes directly to the cause of your choice with a further 10% going to the Torbay Lottery Small Grants Fund, which is used to further support local good causes each year.
